Year 7
The present Year 7 have made a very positive transition from primary to secondary school. The transition process involves visits to the main local feeder primary schools by the head and year and the assistant year head. The students also made at least two visits to Wallingford School before September. One of these included a very successful PE day organised and run by Harriett Thomas (Primary liaison). The second visit included spending time with their form tutors wherever possible and attending some lessons. Part of this gradual integration involved the students starting school on the 5th September - one day before the main school. On this day there was a very exciting map game designed, which involved students finding hidden messages around the school following a timetable of lessons. There was also a photo opportunity as Mr Salvadori took form photos so they can be used on the leavers day at the very end of Year 11.
During the summer holidays the Year 7’s took part in the summer challenge. Students could choose from a selection of activities, which included writing a review of a live event or cooking a family meal. This was completed in the holidays and evidence of this was brought into school and used for displays in the classrooms and a small reward for some of the best efforts was awarded.
Within the first two weeks of term the whole of Year 7 attended a team building activity day at the Hill End Education Centre just outside of Oxford. This included various team building games and activities that were organised by centre staff. The students really enjoyed the activities but unfortunately the day was rained off due to torrential downpours and it became unsafe to continue.
There will be a year group social event before the Christmas break which may be a bowling trip or other activity this has yet to be finalised.
Parents Evening for Year 7 will on the 11th January 2007.
