 The academic year is ending pleasantly in school. We have had a good one, with its fair share of challenges but these are far outweighed by the positive things that have happened.

The OFSTED report was a fair reflection of how well we believe things are going. The degree of parental and student support they found was particularly pleasing and confirms my own experience of working with this community. The number of people putting Wallingford down as their first preference at year Seven exceeds by some number our capacity, and we have
record numbers applying to join the Sixth Form next year.

Everyone involved deserves a great deal of credit for the positive feel around the school, parents, students, governors and associate staff, but special credit goes to the teaching
staff. As the report stated, we have gone a long way to clearing a budget deficit this year through the teachers teaching more lessons, including some out of specialism. Doing this while at the same time raising standards shows remarkable commitment. As a result we go into 2008/9 in a much healthier position.
